Some traders at Ochanja market and residents of the Fegge in Onitsha Anambra staged a solidarity rally on Wednesday for the governor of the state, professor Chukwuma Soludo.
The traders and residents carried placards with various inscriptions to protest against those they described as desperate politicians attempting to use propaganda to distract and discredit the works of Soludo in Ochanja.
The solidarity rally followed a viral video circulated on social media showing portions of washed-off sections of the Ochanja-Iweka road.
The narrative attached to the video was that the road was poorly done and hastily inaugurated by the state government.
Speaking during the protest, the leader of the rally, Okwudili Obinwanne, said they were out to show support for the governor over what he is doing in Onitsha, Ochanja and Anambra as a whole.
According to Obinwanne, the recent incident with the road didn’t call for criticism, as the construction process was still ongoing.
He explained that the contractor had only put the initial layer of asphalt on the road when the rain fell and washed it away.
