No fewer than 22 were injured on Christmas Day when a Sharon vehicle loaded with bags of rice lost control and rammed into a procession of Christian faithful from the Tumfure community of Gombe state.

The police command in Gombe said the accident occurred around 2:pm along Bauchi road.

The police spokesperson in Gombe, Buhari Abdullahi explained that the procession, escorted by some policemen, was heading to the Emir of Gombe’s palace and the government house for Christmas homage, when the vehicle rammed into them.

Abdullahi said the driver fled the scene while a mob set the vehicle ablaze.

He said the victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe, and the specialist hospital for treatment.
