Abia domesticates International Day of Older Persons

Abia state government has expressed its commitment to the domestication of the International Day of Older Persons.

The state Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Ngozi Felix, said this an event organized by the Ministry to commemorate International Day for Older Persons in Umuahia, the state capital.

She said the awareness was to create an environment tailored to meet the needs and challenges of the older persons in our society.

On her part, the wife of the governor of Abia State, Precillia Otti, announced her support for the domestication of laws that protect the elderly people in the state.

She emphasised the importance of prioritising the needs of seniors citizens in state and national interventions and pledged that the state government would ensure that elderly citizens receive a fair share of resources from both state and national programmes.

The International Day of Older Persons is a global health care event celebrated on October 1 every year
