The frontline governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sir Paul Chukwuma has warned agencies and institutions of the government against allowing themselves to be used by politicians to score cheap political point.
Chukwuma sounded the note of caution while addressing journalists at his country home in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state on Thursday.
He was responding to allegations of money laundering leveled against him by in an online report.
The online report alleged that the Abuja Federal High Court had ordered the forfeiture of $378,000 and a Mercedes Benz Maybach belonging to Sir Paul Chukwuma to the Federal government, citing alleged involvement in money laundering.
The money and the vehicle, were alleged to be proceeds of unlawful activities, according to the report.
Speaking on the report, the governorship aspirant, insisted that the alleged money was legitimately earned by him through his company, in a contract with the Federal Government.
While expressing doubt about the involvement of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in the shenanigans as claimed by the sensational media outlet, the educationist said the contract awarded to his company was dutifully and creditably executed and documents duly submitted to the ICPC.
“The money is in the company’s account, which was legitimately earned. All the documents related to the contract are in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The report is not a representation of facts ,” he stated.
He wondered where the allegation of unlawful financial activities were coming from, if not from detractors and blackmailers, being sponsored by interest persons and groups.
The former National Auditor of the APC dismissed the allegation as false, saying that he cannot be intimidated by the tactics of political opponents who seek to ruin his governorship ambitions.
The APC chieftain accused those afraid of his growing political profile of being behind the blackmail.
He vowed to fight any attempt to blackmail him out of the 2025 Anambra State governorship race.
The governorship hopeful also expressed confidence that in spite of the entrance of more personalities into the 2025 governorship race, he remains the aspirant to beat.
The Pro-Chancellor Olivia University Bujumbura Burundi, concluded that the growing number of aspirants declaring governorship ambition under the APC is an indication that the party is viable and his efforts at builiding and making the party acceptable to the people of Anambra state were bearing fruits.
