Dangote Refinery has responded to the claim by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) that it is cheaper to import petrol than buy at the refinery.

The marketers had claimed that they are buying petrol at cheaper rates abroad while calling on Dangote Refinery to engage stakeholders.

But in its reaction on Sunday, Dangote’s Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, accused the marketers of spreading misinformation regarding petrol pricing and quality.

Chiejina said it is only substandard products that can be imported at cheaper rates than its own products.

He said the refinery sells it petrol at N990 per litre in trucks and N960 per litre into ships.

The refinery also alleged that a nearby depot, recently hired by an international trading company, plans to blend lower-quality products to compete with Dangote’s premium-grade PMS, a move the refinery claims threatens the growth of Nigeria’s domestic refining industry
