The Director General of the South-East Governors Forum, Uche Ekwunife, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic petrol tanker explosion that occurred along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, resulting in the loss of human lives.
In a statement released over the weekend by her media assistance, Tony Ezike, Ekwunife extended her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Enugu State, and the entire Southeast region.
She stated that the tragedy is as a painful reminder of the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures, particularly for heavy- duty vehicles transporting inflammable products.
Ekwunife however, commended Governor Peter Mbah for his swift and decisive response, noting that his personal visit to the accident scene and immediate intervention reflect his proactive leadership and commitment to public safety.
According to her, Mbah’s directive on the enforcement of anti-spill locks for tankers and his resolve to rehabilitate critical sections of the affected road demonstrated his dedication to safeguarding lives and property.
She urged relevant agencies to strengthen regulatory enforcement to avert similar tragedies.
