A CSO/Media Accountability and Anti-Corruption Initiative of the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme has called on Anambra state government to make the passage of audit law and other fiscal transparency and accountability laws in the state a priority.

The coalition led by Ugochi Freeman, made the call on Wednesday during an advocacy visit to the Attorney General of the state and commissioner for justice, Professor Sylvia Chika Ifemeje.

Freeman said the passage of the laws will enhance fiscal transparency and Anti-Corruption in Anambra state.

Other demands of the advocacy group include: review and passage of fiscal responsibility law, establishment of fiscal responsibility commission, creation of Anambra State Anti-Corruption commission to fight corruption in public offices, domestication of freedom of Information Act and the implementation of Anti-Corruption.

The CSO/Media Accountability and Anti-Corruption Initiative said efforts should be doubled to increase citizens participation in governance as increased participation leads to public accountability, trust and ownership.

Responding, the attorney General and commissioner for justice, stated that the ministry had done its beat to ensure the passage of the state anti- corruption law.

While assuring to offer assistance to the coalition in pursuance of accountability issues, Ifemeje noted that the ministries, Department and Agencies need to play their expected roles in initiation, push, enactment of public accountability laws and implementation.
